Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili with money laundering involving particularly large proceeds.
The Prosecutor’s Office on Friday said the charge had been filed under Article 194, Part 3 (g) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the legalization of illicit income accompanied by the acquisition of especially large profits.
The Prosecutor General said that Garibashvili had fully admitted guilt in the charges brought against him.
“The Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a motion to the court requesting that bail be set at 1 million GEL, which may be secured either in cash or through immovable property,” officials said.
The prosecution has also requested that Garibashvili be required to surrender his passport and be barred from leaving the country pending further proceedings.
