The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has brought additional terrorism charges against detained opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili in connection with a second incident dating back to 4 May 2025.
The body added Elisashvili allegedly carried out an arson attack at the Tbilisi City Court, targeting the court archive. The agency says he attempted to gain access to the building before throwing a flammable substance inside, causing a fire that damaged parts of the archive and exterior facade.
The blaze, which was later extinguished by emergency services, posed a risk to three staff members inside the building and resulted in damage to case materials and infrastructure.
Authorities allege the act was intended to destabilise the judiciary and disrupt the administration of justice.
Elisashvili has been charged under terrorism-related provisions of the criminal code, which carry a sentence of up to 15 years’ imprisonment. Prosecutors are expected to apply to the court to schedule a preliminary hearing within the legally established timeframe.
Elisashvili is already in custody on separate charges linked to an attempted terrorist attack at the same court in November 2025.
