Russian President Vladimir Putin says he has no information about a drone incident in Romania’s border city of Galați, where a drone reportedly struck a residential building and injured two people.

Putin said he had “no idea” what had happened and suggested the drone involved could have been Ukrainian.

“I know nothing about the drone in Romania. I have no idea what this is about,” Putin said, adding that he had only recently been briefed on the situation.

According to Russian state agency TASS, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had earlier indicated that the Russian president had been informed about the incident.

Putin argued that it was impossible to determine the drone’s origin before an expert investigation is completed, claiming that Ukrainian drones had previously appeared in other countries while “the first reaction is always that Russia is attacking.”

He also stated that Russia would be prepared to conduct an “objective investigation” if debris from the drone were handed over to Moscow.

Romanian authorities reported that a drone crashed into a 10-storey apartment building in Galați, near the Ukrainian border, leaving two people injured.
