US President Donald Trump has said that Russia did not breach any agreement, arguing that a temporary pause in strikes on Ukraine was observed and has now formally ended.
Trump claimed the one-week suspension of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was requested by him personally during discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said the pause officially concluded on Sunday and stressed that Moscow complied with the agreed timeframe.
“The pause lasted from week to week. It ended, and now Putin has hit them hard. Putin kept his word,” Trump said.
The US president also made clear that he was satisfied even with such a brief suspension, noting that any reduction in hostilities during the harsh winter period should be seen as a positive step. He argued that even a short halt in fighting can have humanitarian value when temperatures are low and energy infrastructure is under pressure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, saying the pause in strikes lasted only four days. Zelenskyy noted that the proposal had come from Trump and said Kyiv is now awaiting a response from the United States regarding further actions and possible next steps.
