Former Georgian Deputy Economy Minister sentenced to 10 years in prison

As part of the verdict, the court also ordered the confiscation of several assets belonging to the former official

The Georgian court has sentenced former Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Romeo Mikautadze to ten years in prison after finding him guilty on all charges brought against him.
The ruling was delivered by Judge Nino Galustashvili at the Tbilisi City Court. In addition to the prison sentence, the court barred Mikautadze from holding public office for a period of two years.
As part of the verdict, the court also ordered the confiscation of several assets belonging to the former official. These include a 120-square-metre apartment in Madrid, a 1,200-square-metre house in Tserovani, multiple vehicles, and a 15% stake in the Nakhiduri Hydropower Plant. Authorities will also seize items recovered during searches, including luxury watches, gold bars and coins.
Mikautadze, who previously served as First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, was arrested on 20 June 2025.
