Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said the parliamentary majority was expected to support the Citizens opposition party nominee for the country’s new public advocate, Levan Ioseliani.
Attending the ITB Berlin international tourism fair, Garibashvili described Ioseliani as a “worthy candidate”.
The PM said it was his personal position to the candidate, but added he was also aware of the ruling party’s views on him.
Last year the majority conceded the right to the opposition to nominate candidates for the country’s new public defender, as the term of former ombudsperson Nino Lomjaria expired in December.
The part of the parliamentary minority said Ioseliani was “politically biased” and they would vote for the candidates nominated by the civil sector.
