Head of the ruling Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze says that the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party and its affiliated media outlets are far more dangerous for state interests than Pro Russian Alt-Info and its Conservarive party.

Kobakhidze’s statement comes on the heels of the demands in the public of the government to take legal  measures against the pro-Russian Conservative Party, which, through its TV channel, supports Russian interests.

Kobakhidze said that there are several media outlets in Georgia that propagate aggression, hatred and polarization, although the legislation against them is powerless.

“Unfortunately, we have pro-Russian parties in the parliament as well. This is a sad reality. The same goes for televisions. There are many TV stations in Georgia that propagate aggression, hatred and polarization, and here, too, unfortunately, the legislation is powerless. I think they are also funded by Russia,” Kobakhidze said.

He stated that the UNM is more dangerous than the Conservarive Party as the former receives seats in parliament and has more influential media resources.

Kobakhidze once again stated that the UNM party is ‘engaged with aggression and provocations’ and is trying ‘to drag the country into Russia-Ukraine war.’
