The ruling Georgian Dream party says that the actions of President Salome Zourabichvili and her statements being made over Russia-Ukraine war ‘poses security threats’ to the country and that the party is ‘forced’ to address the country’s Constitutional Court to confirm the president breached the law when she visited several European Countries earlier this month without the government’s consent.

Zourabichvili, who was open to slam Russia for its aggression in Ukraine and pushed forward the necessity of Georgia’s EU integration in an accelerated manner during her EU trip, appeared in parliament yesterday with the charge d’affaires of Ukraine.

During her annual report Zurabishvili criticized the MPs and stated that the Georgian people acted ‘far more bravely and cautiously’ over current developments in Ukraine than Georgian legislators.

Following the annual report the Georgian Dream called on the president to “ show courage and if she meant that Georgia should have been involved in the war, say it openly.”

“The actions of the president of Georgia against the constitution and baseless statements pose a serious threat to the country at a time when the world and Georgia are facing big security challenges in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war. We once again call on the president to carefully study the Constitution of Georgia to understand well the essence of the parliamentary republic,” said the ruling party, noting that the move will ‘protect the president from making mistakes’ in the future.

The ruling party MP Mamuka Mdinaradze said that the president’s visits, which she paid without the consent of the government, ‘visually looked good, but yielded no results,” noting that the move seemed to be pupilist.

Zourabichvili said yesterday that she left for the EU shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine as she believed it was important for state interests.
