Georgia’s Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance has arrested two individuals on charges of large-scale misappropriation of property, while a third suspect has been charged in absentia, the body announced on Thursday.

The investigation found the group, acting under a pre-arranged scheme, illegally offloaded fish worth ₾1,144,716 ($425,597) from two sealed trailers transiting from Norway to Kazakhstan. The cargo was then misappropriated by members of the criminal group.

To conceal the crime, the trailers left Georgia empty toward Azerbaijan, with customs documentation falsely indicating that the fish was still being transported, the body said.

The crime is punishable by seven to 11 years in prison.
