The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday condemned the European Commission’s 2025 Enlargement Report, calling it “alarming” for allegedly using the document to issue “unfounded negative” assessments and “political speculation” against Georgia.

In a statement, the MFA said the report “tendentially evaluates various events” in the country and disregards attacks on state institutions during the October 4 local elections in Tbilisi, while also noting that EU representatives misinterpreted those events in their joint statement.

The Ministry highlighted that, despite improvements in governance, anti-corruption measures, bureaucratic efficiency and macroeconomic stability, the EU report fails to objectively reflect Georgia’s progress. It warned that such actions by EU institutions risk politicising Georgia’s EU accession process.

The MFA reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to the Association Agreement signed with the bloc in 2014, emphasising the country’s dedication to “constructive” and “mutually beneficial” cooperation with the EU based on shared values, not coercion.
