The European Court of Human Rights has registered a third complaint filed on behalf of convicted Georgian media manager Mzia Amaglobeli concerning alleged ill-treatment, the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association announced on Thursday.
The organization said the application was submitted on March 4, 2026, and was registered by the Court within one week, on March 11. GYLA was notified of the registration on April 1.
The complaint relates to alleged ill-treatment inflicted on Amaglobeli on January 12, 2025, as well as to the alleged ineffectiveness of the subsequent investigation, the GYLA press office said.
GYLA argued that several fundamental rights under the European Convention on Human Rights were violated. These include the prohibition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, along with the obligation to conduct an effective investigation; the prohibition of discrimination; the right to respect for private life; and the right to an effective remedy.
The organization also noted that it had already lodged two additional cases before the Strasbourg Court on behalf of Amaglobeli.
The first case concerns the alleged unlawful use of pre-trial detention as a preventive measure. GYLA has already submitted written observations in response to the government’s position in that case.
The second case, which relates to Amaglobeli’s administrative detention and associated alleged violations, has also been registered by the Court.
