March 3 is recognised as an official public holiday in the country

Today, Georgia marks Mother’s Day, a holiday established by the country’s first President, Zviad Gamsakhurdia.

The decision was approved by Georgia’s Supreme Council in 1991. While International Women’s Day on 8 March is widely observed, Mother’s Day is celebrated separately in Georgia.

March 3 is recognised as an official public holiday in the country.
