Ombudsman visits prison, meets arrested opposition leaders, administration

Georgia’s Public Defender Levan Ioseliani has visited the N8 penitentiary, meeting with the facility’s administration and inmates, the Public Defender’s Office reported on Wednesday.

During the visit, Ioseliani received detailed information on prisoners’ legal rights and living conditions. He also met with opposition inmates Paata Manjgaladze, Lasha Beridze, and Irakli Nadiradze to discuss their situation.

The Public Defender continues to monitor penitentiary institutions and oversee the protection of the rights of both pre-trial detainees and sentenced prisoners, the statement said.
