Georgia’s fifth President pays tribute to Pope Francis following his death

Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, has extended her condolences following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday.

“My thoughts are with the millions of Catholics mourning Pope Francis’ passing on Easter Monday,” she wrote on social media.

Zourabichvili also recalled her official visit to the Vatican during her presidency, saying “I was privileged to pay an official visit to the Vatican as the President of Georgia and agree on important steps to strengthen ties between our states and cultures.”

Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church since 2013, was widely respected for his efforts to promote dialogue, social justice, and compassion. His passing has drawn tributes from leaders and communities around the world.

The Vatican has yet to announce details of the funeral arrangements.
