Georgian law enforcement officers have arrested a dual German-Russian national on charges of illegally importing and possessing a particularly large quantity of psychotropic substances, the Interior Ministry said.

Officers from the Adjara Main Division of the Central Criminal Police Department, working in cooperation with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, detained the suspect at the Sarpi border crossing on Georgia's border with Turkey.

During an inspection of the suspect's hand luggage, authorities allegedly discovered and seized 1,400 pregabalin pills, which investigators classified as a particularly large quantity of a psychotropic substance.

The suspect has been charged with the illegal acquisition, possession and importation of psychotropic substances into Georgia.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to 12 years in prison.
