Georgian police have seized 112 packages of the narcotic drug methadone and arrested a 43-year-old repeat offender in Zugdidi, western Georgia, on charges of large-scale drug possession and distribution, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced on Tuesday.
The MIA said the suspect, identified as J.V., was detained following joint operative and investigative actions conducted by detectives and investigators from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department.
The seized methadone, prepared for sale, was discovered during a personal search of the detainee and from an additional location in Batumi, the body said.
The MIA further noted that J.V. had been charged with the illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitation of distribution of narcotic substances in particularly large quantities, offenses punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
