Four arrested in western Georgia over firearms and ammunition

Police in western Georgia have arrested four people on suspicion of illegally acquiring, possessing and carrying firearms and ammunition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department carried out a series of police operations at different times, leading to the arrests, the MIA press office said on Monday.

Searches of the suspects and their homes resulted in the seizure of three pistols, a modified sawed-off hunting shotgun, magazines and ammunition as evidence.

Police also said that marijuana was seized from one of the detainees.

The offences carry a maximum prison sentence of up to seven years.
