A Georgian parliamentary delegation is paying an official visit to Brazil, where it has held meetings with senior lawmakers, Georgia’s parliament announced on Friday.

The delegation met Nelsonio Trad, chair of the Senate’s Foreign Relations and Defence Committee, Luis Nishimori, chair of the Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Relations and Defence Committee, and Mauricio Carvalho, head of the Chamber’s Education Committee.

Talks focused on strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations, including the prospect of holding regular joint committee meetings both online and through reciprocal visits.

Georgian MPs thanked their Brazilian counterparts for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity. Brazilian lawmakers reiterated that their stance was grounded in fundamental principles of international law and would remain unchanged.

The Georgian side also briefed counterparts on recent economic reforms, noting that the country had recorded double-digit growth in recent years. Discussions covered political developments in Brazil and Latin America, as well as Georgia’s role as a transit corridor and its investment potential.

In the field of education, both sides highlighted the importance of encouraging cooperation between Georgian and Brazilian universities and sharing best practices in reform.

During their visit to Brazil’s legislature, the delegation also met Claudio Cajado, head of the Brazil-Georgia Friendship Group. The two sides agreed to step up cooperation, announcing that Georgian Days will be held in Brazil’s parliament this autumn, followed by Brazilian Days in Georgia next year.

The delegation is led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, and includes Mariam Lashkhi, chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and head of the Georgia-Brazil Friendship Group, and Viktor Sanikidze, chair of the Sports Committee, alongside Georgia’s ambassador to Brazil, Zurab Mchedlishvili.
