Georgian police arrest three for illegal border crossing

Three people have been arrested for allegedly crossing Georgia’s state border illegally, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

An investigation by the Border Police’s Operational-Investigative Department established that the suspects illegally crossed the Georgia-Türkiye border by concealing themselves inside a truck at the Sarpi border checkpoint, under the jurisdiction of the Batumi Division of the Border Police.

The three were detained following operational and investigative measures carried out by law enforcement officers.

The crime carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.
