Protests will continue until fair elections are called, says UNM’s Chikhladze

Protests will persist until Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream party heed demands for new and fair elections, according to Sergo Chikhladze, a member of the United National Movement (UNM), in an interview with Front News.

Chikhladze emphasized that the demonstrations will remain peaceful and within constitutional bounds.

“Protests will continue until Ivanishvili and Georgian Dream respond to these just demands. This means scheduling new, fair elections. The protests will be ongoing and diverse—marches, events like those we saw at Tbilisi State University, and every form of peaceful protest allowed by the constitution,” Chikhladze stressed.

He also accused the ruling Georgian Dream of overstepping constitutional limits.

“While the opposition and public will never act outside the constitution, Ivanishvili and Georgian Dream have long violated its framework. They resort to violence, but we will overcome this with peaceful resistance,” he noted.

Chikhladze highlighted that the timeline for achieving results remains uncertain, adding, “This could take weeks or months, but both the public and political parties are prepared for prolonged and principled protest.”
