Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has held an introductory meeting with the new representative of UNICEF in Georgia, Isabella Castrogiovanni.
During the meeting, Papuashvili said Georgia values its long-standing and productive cooperation with UNICEF, according to the parliament's press service.
Castrogiovanni highlighted the successful partnership between Georgia and UNICEF in the development of the country's Child Rights Code, noting that children's rights, education, healthcare and social policy have been identified as key priorities under the organisation's programme framework. She also expressed readiness to work with the Georgian parliament on specific initiatives.
The sides noted that Georgia is a member of UNICEF's Executive Board and will continue to play an active role in its activities.
Papuashvili also briefed the new UNICEF representative on Georgia's legislation regulating the activities of international organisations and donor-funded entities.
The parliament speaker wished Castrogiovanni success in her new role.
