Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili Travels to Rome for Council of Europe Parliamentary Conference

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has travelled to Rome, Italy, on a working visit to attend the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament of Council of Europe member states, the Georgian parliament’s press service said.

Papuashvili is scheduled to address two sessions of the conference and hold high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.

The Georgian parliament speaker is accompanied by a parliamentary delegation comprising Nikoloz Samkharadze, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee; Levan Makhashvili, chairman of the European Integration Committee; and MP Eka Sepashvili.

The visit forms part of Georgia’s participation in the Council of Europe’s interparliamentary activities.

The conference, scheduled for October 15–16, will bring together parliamentary leaders from across Europe to discuss threats to democracy, artificial intelligence and the role of parliaments in addressing international crises.

According to the Council of Europe, around 70 parliamentary speakers and deputy speakers, along with approximately 500 delegates, are expected to attend the gathering, hosted by the Italian parliament.
