Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has delivered a lecture at the China Foreign Affairs University during his official visit to China.

Papuashvili highlighted the significance of the first official visit to China by a Georgian parliamentary delegation and emphasised the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, his press office said on Tuesday.

The China Foreign Affairs University, located in Beijing and affiliated with China’s Foreign Ministry, is widely known as the “cradle of Chinese diplomats” and specialises in diplomacy, international relations and international law.

In his speech, Papuashvili said the world was undergoing major transformative processes and described Georgia as “an island of peace and development” amid global turbulence.

He also spoke about the Georgian government’s efforts to protect national interests and sovereignty, according to the statement.

The parliamentary speaker additionally stressed Georgia’s strategic geographical location and its significant potential in the field of regional connectivity.

Also addressing the event were First Deputy Parliament Speaker Giorgi Volski and Foreign Relations Committee Chair Nikoloz Samkharadze.

The lecture took place as part of Papuashvili’s official visit to China.
