A new Georgian social media platform, MNT, has been launched to help citizens share unfiltered information about events unfolding during protests. The app’s creator, Nika Shelia, announced the launch on LinkedIn, emphasizing its goal to bypass traditional media narratives.
“MNT is a Georgian social network designed to help citizens receive unfiltered updates directly from the ground at protest sites, such as near the parliament or other locations, without relying on media outlets that, for years, have spread disinformation and Russian propaganda,” Shelia wrote.
The platform allows users to upload posts or videos exclusively from specific protest locations and only via mobile devices. This measure aims to filter out Russian or Chinese bots that may attempt to spread disinformation on platforms like Facebook, TikTok, or X.
Additionally, Shelia noted that the app’s code is fully open-source, enabling anyone to contribute to its development and ensure transparency. The innovative platform is seen as a tool to empower citizens and provide accurate information amid heightened political tensions.
