Georgia has opened a new border police facility at Mamisoni, in the mountainous Racha region, with support from the United States.
Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamazashvili inaugurated the new building at the Mamisoni border sector, part of the Border Police’s Land Border Protection Department. Courtney Austrian, the acting US ambassador to Georgia, attended the ceremony.
The construction project was supported by US European Command (EUCOM), the US Embassy in Georgia’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and its Regional Security Office (RSO), the MIA press office said.
Located 1,800 metres above sea level, the facility has been equipped with modern furnishings and advanced technical equipment. Its infrastructure was designed to withstand the area’s challenging climatic conditions and provide border guards with suitable working and living conditions.
Tamazashvili thanked the border guards for their service and wished them success in their duties. He also expressed gratitude to the US side for supporting the project.
