Over the past two days, law enforcement authorities across Georgia have seized dozens of illegal firearms, ammunition, and explosive materials, resulting in the arrest of 51 individuals, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze said.

“To ensure public order and citizen safety, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continue to actively combat organised crime on a daily basis. The Ministry systematically conducts police operations, including preventive measures,” Darakhvelidze said.

He added that the recent nationwide operations, carried out under judicial authorization in Tbilisi and other regions, led to the seizure of a wide range of illegal weapons and explosives.

Police searches of the suspects’ homes, auxiliary premises, and vehicles yielded firearms - including automatic weapons - hand grenades, magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and explosive materials.

The investigation is ongoing under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.

Darakhvelidze noted that the Ministry’s effective policing and preventive efforts have contributed to a measurable reduction in crimes against life and health, as reflected in official statistics.

“Protecting citizen safety remains one of our highest priorities. The Ministry will continue to carry out active and consistent work in crime prevention to ensure law and order and a safe environment in the country,” he said.
