Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on Saturday announced that 29 protesters had been detained over the past five days for violating regulations on holding assemblies and demonstrations.

The Ministry added the detainees were arrested for illegally blocking Rustaveli Avenue in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi in breach of the Administrative Offenses Code.

“The protesters ignored multiple lawful instructions from patrol police officers to refrain from illegal actions and to keep the roadway open. Despite their small number, the demonstrators again blocked Rustaveli Avenue, deliberately disrupting traffic”, the body said.
