Georgia, Turkey identify wanted Turkish citizens in joint police operation

Georgian and Turkish law enforcement authorities have identified Turkish citizens wanted by Turkish police for various offences, including serious and particularly serious crimes, during coordinated police operations at several locations across Georgia, Georgia's Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry said all of the identified individuals are Turkish nationals wanted at the national level by Turkish law enforcement authorities.

Some of them were found to have overstayed their permitted period of stay in Georgia or were residing in the country without a legal basis. The authorities carried out the relevant legal procedures against them.

The operation was preceded by intelligence-gathering and search measures planned in close coordination with Turkish law enforcement.

Georgia's Interior Ministry said its officers are actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies of partner countries, including Turkey, to identify foreign nationals wanted by other countries who are present on Georgian territory.
