Georgian Interior Ministry warns protesters against blocking strategic roads

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued a statement warning protesters against blocking strategic or critical infrastructure, emphasizing that such actions could lead to imprisonment.

According to the ministry, demonstrators are gathering at multiple locations and plan to block the exit from Tbilisi as part of a protest. Law enforcement agencies have been mobilized at key locations to ensure public safety and maintain order.

The MIA stated that under Georgian law, blocking a strategic or critical site is a criminal offense:

* Blocking such an object is punishable by up to two years in prison
* If done as part of a group, the sentence increases to two to four years
The ministry specifically referenced the October 23, 2024, government decree (No. 361), which classifies international highways as strategic or critical infrastructure.

“We urge protest organizers and participants to express their grievances within the legal framework. Otherwise, police will act in accordance with the law,” the statement reads.
