Police in eastern Georgia have arrested a man with prior convictions on suspicion of attacking a stray dog in the Kakheti region, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

Officers from the Kakheti Police Department’s Signagi district division detained a 47-year-old suspect, identified as Z.Ch., following an investigation into the incident.

The man allegedly inflicted injuries on a stray dog using a sharp object in the town of Signagi before leaving the scene.

The injured animal was later taken to a shelter, where it is receiving appropriate veterinary treatment.

If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison, the ministry added.
