Voter turnout in Armenia's parliamentary election reached 33.84 per cent by 2:00 p.m. local time, according to data released by the country's Central Election Commission.

The commission said that 847,226 voters had cast their ballots by midday.

Turnout was about eight percentage points higher than at the same stage of the previous parliamentary election, according to the election body.

Armenians are voting on Sunday in a parliamentary election contested by multiple political parties and alliances seeking seats in the country's 107-member National Assembly.

Nearly 2.5 million registered voters are eligible to participate in the election.

Polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. local time and will remain open until 8:00 p.m., when voting concludes and ballot counting begins.
