Man arrested in Rustavi over theft from cash machine

Police in Rustavi have arrested a man accused of stealing money from a company-owned cash deposit machine, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The suspect and a minor who was accompanying him first transferred an unspecified amount of money to their own accounts using the machine.

They then allegedly damaged the machine and unlawfully took the cash inside it, the ministry said.

The company’s reported loss amounted to 3,784 lari ($1,400).

The offence carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.
