A Georgian citizen who had been illegally detained this month by Russian-controlled occupation forces was released and is now on territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service of Georgia (GSSS) announced on Wednesday.

The release process actively involved the hotline mechanism operated with the direct participation of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, as well as all other relevant instruments available to the central authorities, the agency said on Wednesday.

The statement stressed that the central government and the State Security Service continued to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens held illegally in occupied territories.
