State Security Service: Georgian citizen illegally detained in Akhalgori region released

A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained in the occupied Akhalgori area on August 9, 2025 has been released and is now in territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service said on Tuesday.

The agency said that all relevant mechanisms available to the central authorities were actively used in the process of securing the individual’s release.

“The central authorities and the State Security Service continue active efforts to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain in illegal detention in the occupied territories,” the statement said.
