Georgian citizen illegally detained near occupied village released, State Security Service says

A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained on Wednesday near the Russian-occupied village of Tsinagara has been released and is now in territory controlled by Georgia’s central authorities, the State Security Service said on Thursday.

In a statement, the body confirmed that the individual, who was detained in the vicinity of the occupied village, is now free and safely located in government-controlled territory.

The State Security Service expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the process for their “swift response” and for prioritising the detainee’s condition and “best interests”.

The body added that Georgia’s central authorities and the State Security Service will continue efforts to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain illegally detained in the occupied territories.
