Georgian Citizen Illegally Detained by Russian Occupation Forces Released – State Security Service

A Georgian citizen illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the village of Bershueti in Georgia’s Gori municipality has been released and is now in territory controlled by the Georgian central government, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) said.

According to the agency, all relevant mechanisms available to the Georgian authorities were actively employed to secure the citizen’s release, including the hotline operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).

“The Georgian central government actively utilised all relevant mechanisms at its disposal to facilitate the release of the illegally detained Georgian citizen, including the hotline operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia,” the SSSG said in a statement.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to securing the release of all Georgian citizens who remain in illegal detention in the Russian-occupied territories.

“The State Security Service continues its active efforts to secure the release of all Georgian citizens illegally held in the occupied territories,” the statement added.
