A former employee of Georgia’s State Security Service of Georgia, who is currently serving as an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, has been arrested on charges of leaking classified information from the State Security Service.
The State Security Service said on Saturday the arrest was made in a joint operation with the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
Investigators allege that the suspect unlawfully removed secret information from the State Security Service while employed there.
“The State Security Service will remain especially strict and uncompromising toward any unauthorised removal of internal information, regardless of scale and any person committing such an act will be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” the agency said in a statement.
The investigation is underway under Article 321 of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
