Georgian First Lady Tamar Bagrationi on Tuesday stressed the shared global responsibility for children’s wellbeing and future while addressing a working session of a global summit organised at the US First Lady Melania Trump’s initiative, entitled Fostering the Future Together, in Washington.

Bagrationi thanked the US First Lady for hosting the event and bringing together representatives from 45 countries, saying she had transformed “maternal instinct into a global movement”.

“Today we are united by one common responsibility — the wellbeing of our children and their future,” she said.

Bagrationi noted that she was addressing the forum not only in her official capacity, but also as a mother of four, highlighting the universal challenge faced by parents in balancing children’s safety with their freedom to grow and explore.

She said parents around the world share a constant concern to protect their children from risks while also allowing them to benefit from opportunities in a rapidly evolving era.

“Finding this balance is not easy. It is a daily challenge - quiet, invisible, yet very real - shared by families across the world,” she said.

The First Lady emphasised that decisions must ensure both the safety and development of children, enabling them to remain open, curious and connected to the world, while also enjoying the freedom to play and socialise.

Bagrationi also highlighted Georgia’s progress in digital transformation, noting that the country’s national approach is based on a “middle path” principle aimed at balancing technological innovation with human dignity, fundamental rights and, in particular, child safety.
