Georgia’s First Lady, Tamar Bagrationi, has visited Italy’s State Central Archives during a working visit to the country, where she met with the archive’s director, Gabriele Capone.
The meeting was also attended by Nadia Bagnarini, head of the archive’s Cultural Heritage Promotion Service, and Tamar Liluashvili, Georgia’s Ambassador to Italy.
During the visit, Bagrationi reviewed archival documents, including materials reflecting historical relations and ties between Georgia and Italy.
The Italian side presented her with copies of two royal decrees issued by King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. The 1911 decree concerns the establishment of the Italian Consulate in Tiflis, while the 1914 decree relates to the establishment of the Royal Italian Consulate General in the city.
The documents are considered important historical sources on relations between the two countries during that period.
The meeting also addressed prospects for future cooperation, including joint educational and research programmes for students and young researchers. Discussions covered opportunities to work with archival materials and exchange professional expertise.
Bagrationi thanked the Italian side for its hospitality, for presenting archival materials related to Georgia and for providing copies of the historical decrees.
