Police in Georgia have arrested seven people in separate operations across several regions on suspicion of illegally acquiring, possessing and carrying firearms and ammunition, the Interior Ministry said on Monday,
Officers from the Interior Ministry's Tbilisi, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Imereti police departments carried out the arrests during separate preventive policing operations conducted at different times, the ministry said.
Searches of the suspects, their homes and outbuildings resulted in the seizure of several firearms of different models, ammunition and magazines, which were taken as evidence.
The crime carries a maximum prison sentence of up to six years.
