Foreign citizen arrested in Georgia over ₾136,000 fraud

A foreign national has been arrested in Georgia on suspicion of fraudulently obtaining a large sum of money, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The investigation found that the suspect introduced himself to a victim as an official distributor of a foreign company and persuaded the individual to transfer a substantial sum to purchase a complete heating system.

However, the suspect failed to fulfil the agreement and misappropriated nearly GEL 136,000, using the money for personal purposes.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to nine years in prison.
