The opposition Girchi party has nominated Iago Khvichia as its candidate for Tbilisi mayor in the upcoming local self-government elections scheduled for October 4.

Khvichia was presented by Herman Szabó, who noted that the decision was made through party primaries. Szabó also introduced three candidates for the Tbilisi City Council: Dato Panjakidze, Giorgi Gvenetadze, and Eka Oniani.

Khvichia announced that Aleksandre Rakviashvili would serve as his vice-mayoral candidate and head of the election headquarters.

Other parties have also revealed their contenders: the ruling Georgian Dream nominated incumbent Mayor Kakha Kaladze, while Lelo and For Georgia put forward Irakli Kupradze.
