Four arrested in Tbilisi over alleged large-scale drug offences

Four people have been detained in Tbilisi at different times on charges including the illegal acquisition and possession of particularly large quantities of drugs, facilitating drug sales and illegally cultivating a drug-containing plant, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

Officers from the Didube-Chughureti and Isani-Samgori Main Divisions of the Tbilisi Police Department searched the suspects, their homes and vehicles, as well as locations identified by them.

Police seized 126 packages of drugs prepared for sale, including methadone, MDMA, Alpha-PVP and marijuana, as well as cannabis plants.

Materials allegedly intended for packaging drugs were also seized.

Depending on the specific offence, the charges carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
