Coalition for Change leader: Ex-Pres Zourabichvili missed chance to unite opposition

Tengo Tevzadze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has said former President Salome Zourabichvili failed to take the necessary steps to unite Georgia’s opposition when the opportunity existed.

Speaking after Zourabichvili urged opposition parties to unite around a common goal, Tevzadze said she could have played a significant role before the 2025 local elections.

“When there was an opportunity for unity, Zourabichvili did not take the necessary steps. Unfortunately, that was the case before the 2025 local self-government elections. She could have played an important role,” Tevzadze said.

He added that if Zourabichvili knew why opposition unity had failed, she should state it publicly.

“If Zourabichvili has that information, she should openly say who prevented this from happening. I don't see any problem with that,” he said.

Tevzadze said the Ahali party would continue working to achieve at least coordination among opposition parties if full unity could not be reached.

Earlier, Zourabichvili called on opposition groups to unite around a single objective, saying previous efforts to build a broad alliance had likely failed because of what she described as government interference and the imprisonment of several opposition leaders.
