Tornike Rizhvadze, the former Chairman of the Government of Adjara, has been transferred to Turkey for continued medical care after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest.
Rizhvadze was hospitalized on July 7 with a severe injury caused by a firearm. The Georgian authorities have launched a criminal investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to incitement to suicide.
According to doctors, Rizhvadze’s condition has shown positive progress in recent days. He is now conscious, responsive, and able to follow simple commands.
Meanwhile, Aleksi Akhvlediani, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency and a close associate of Rizhvadze, has been charged with negligent storage of a firearm. Investigators allege that the weapon used in the incident belonged to Akhvlediani and had been improperly stored.
On July 8, the Tbilisi City Court set bail at 30,000 GEL for Akhvlediani, releasing him from custody pending trial.
