US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the end of the war with Iran depends on his decision, adding that the conflict could conclude “any time” he chooses.
"Little this and that -- any time I want it to end, it will end," the President said during a brief telephone interview with US outlet Axios.
“There are no targets left there. The war is going excellently. We are far ahead of schedule. We have inflicted more damage than we expected, even within the initial six-week period,” he said.
According to the outlet N12, despite Trump’s strong public statements, senior officials in both Israel and the United States have said internal discussions have not included any indication of a possible end date for the war.
Since February 28, the United States, together with Israel, has been conducting a military operation against Iran. During the first two days of the conflict alone, Washington reportedly spent about $5.6 billion on munitions, significantly more than initially planned.
In response, Iran launched strikes against several countries in the Middle East, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Amid the escalating conflict, Iran also blocked the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, including oil tankers, triggering a rise in global oil prices and increasing logistics costs due to higher fuel prices.
Western intelligence sources have also suggested that Russia is assisting Iran with drone tactics previously used in the war in Ukraine to carry out attacks on US and other targets in the Persian Gulf.
In an interview with The New York Times, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had sent drones and a team of experts to Jordan to help protect US military bases there.
