US President Donald Trump on Thursday said the United States will not carry out the strikes and bombings against Iran that had been scheduled for the evening of June 11, citing progress in talks with Tehran.
In a post on social media, Trump said discussions with Iran had reached the “highest levels” of the Iranian leadership and received approval.
“Based on the fact that discussions with Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote.
According to Trump, the discussions and final points of the proposed agreement have been approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt.
Trump added that the naval blockade would remain in effect until the agreement is finalised.
“Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly,” he said.
