A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take place in Washington on Tuesday, 28 July, a White House official confirmed to Reuters.
A Ukrainian source said Zelenskyy is interested in visiting the United States, but his team is awaiting official confirmation of Trump’s schedule from the White House.
According to the source, Ukrainian and US officials have discussed a proposal for a halt to aerial warfare, which they plan to present to the Russian side as part of a new round of peace initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Some officials believe that pressure on the Russian economy through Ukrainian drone and missile strikes could influence President Vladimir Putin’s position.
Media reports also indicate that, in addition to his meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy plans to attend the funeral of US Senator Lindsey Graham at Washington National Cathedral on the same day.
Trump and Zelenskyy have already met three times this year. Their first meeting took place in January on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the second on 16 June during the G7 summit in France and the third on 8 July in Ankara during the NATO summit, where discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and the licensing of Patriot missile systems.
