Georgian Election Commission cancels electoral lists of three opposition coalitions

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has annulled the registration of electoral lists submitted by three opposition coalitions: Coalition for Change, Unity – United National Movement and Strong Georgia.”

The CEC stated that the decision was made at the coalitions’ request and in accordance with Georgian electoral law.

In a statement, the CEC clarified that the cancellation of the lists does not imply agreement with the political assessments or criticisms expressed by the coalitions about the 2024 parliamentary elections or their results.

“The Election Administration’s decision to annul these lists was strictly guided by Georgian electoral legislation. We do not endorse or accept the politically charged or unfounded evaluations regarding the October 26, 2024, elections or the certification of their results,” the CEC statement reads.

The CEC reaffirmed its stance that the elections were conducted in full compliance with the principles enshrined in the Georgian Constitution. It also maintained that the summary protocol of the election results was prepared following the law.

Official notices of the annulment of party lists have been sent to the respective political coalitions.
