The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that the elections for municipal representative bodies (Sakrebulos) and mayors of self-governing cities and municipalities will be held on October 4, 2025.

The CEC reminded political parties of the procedures required to participate in the municipal elections, as outlined by the Election Code of Georgia.

According to the Organic Law of Georgia on the “Election Code,” parties wishing to participate in the elections must submit an application to the CEC chairperson. The deadlines and requirements vary based on specific conditions:

If the party was registered during the last parliamentary elections or currently has a representative in the Parliament of Georgia, it must apply no later than the 57th day before the election date.
If neither condition is met, the party must apply between January 1 and July 14, 2025.
Parties not meeting these conditions will receive a sample supporter list template upon application submission. They are required to collect and submit at least 25,000 supporter signatures to the CEC within 60 days but no later than August 1, 2025. The CEC will verify these lists according to the Election Code’s regulations and deadlines.

The application must also include a statement issued by the National Agency of Public Registry under the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. This document, detailing the party’s leadership and representatives, must be issued no more than 10 days before the application submission.

The CEC encourages political parties planning to participate in the elections to complete all necessary procedures on time to ensure eligibility.
